The following is meant to suplement the general SY110 course policy issued the first day of class.

Classroom Conduct

Section Leader: The section leader will record attendance and bring the students to attention at the beginning and end of each class/lab period. If the instructor is late more than 5 minutes, the section leader will keep the students in place and report to the Computer Science department office. If the instructor is absent, the section leader will direct the students in productive review of course material.

Food & Drink: Drinks are permitted, but they must be in reclosable containers. Food, alcohol, smoking, smokeless tobacco products, and electronic cigarettes are all prohibited.

Cell Phones & Smart Watches: Cell phones must be silent (preferably off) and put away during class/lab. Any use of a smart watch during class/lab to access funtions normally associated with a cell phone is strictly prohibited. Any cell phone or smart watch found in violation of this policy will be confiscated and turned into your Company Officer.

Laptops, tablets, & computers: Your laptop is required for every class meeting; bring it charged or come with your charger. It is to be used exclusively for SI110 work during our meeting time. In other words, when using laptops, tablets, or computers during class/lab, students are prohibited from viewing any material that is not directly related to the course. During lectures, your laptops should be closed, and you should be paying attention to the instructor and taking notes. I will tell you when to open your laptops for practical application or tasks.

Professional Conduct

Homework

Homework will conducted via the USNA Blackboard site for this course.

10% Instructor Option

EI, XS110, & MGSP

Seek out EI, XS110, and MGSP as soon as you feel necessary; don’t wait until after 6-week exams to begin to get help with course content you are uncomfortable with. If you are not struggling, but interested in getting deeper into some of the material, I am happy to hold EI with you as well.
